Redexim celebrate 40 years at the heart of UK turf industry

6 April 2022

Take a quick look around a greenkeepers shed, and there’s a good chance you’ll find a piece of Redexim equipment – be that the iconic and original Verti-Drain® aerator, or some of the more recent additions to the range like the Verti-Cut or innovations such as the Top-Brush. With a rich history of supplying a vast selection of equipment critical to successful fine turf and sports turf maintenance, 2022 marks the proud milestone of 40 years in business for Redexim UK. Greenkeeper International takes a look at their history.

The concept for a heave aerator was borne from one Redexim bv engineer, who had witnessed first-hand a team of groundsmen using forks to open up the surface of a football pitch. Just two years later in 1980, the first Verti-Drain’s® began rolling off the production line in Zeist, Holland. Redexim UK (formally Charterhouse Turf Machinery) gained the rights to sell the now iconic Verti-Drain® in 1982, operating from their original premises in Godalming, Surrey. That appointment went on to benchmark much of the company’s success in the 40 years that have followed.

From the beginning, the Verti-Drain® proved successful and as more models were introduced to the range, new doors began opening with contractors, sports grounds and golf clubs around the UK. To complement the Verti-Drain®, Redexim UK began designing and building some of their own equipment, including an overseeder and one of the first top dressing machines available in the UK. These expansions triggered the move to larger premises – firstly to nearby Milford, then to a purpose-built HQ in Haslemere in 1991, where the team remain today.

The partnership continued to bear fruit for both parties, and it was in 1997 that Redexim UK became a wholly owned subsidiary of Redexim bv. In the period that followed, there were changes to both the personnel and product range which expanded dramatically – including new developments in the aeration market with the introduction of the Verti-Quake linear aerator. In 2005, they also introduced the Redexim range of machinery for synthetic surface maintenance into their portfolio.

The latest development of the partnership came in July 2021 when the decision was made to officially re-branded to Redexim UK – a change of name which brought the UK into line with the Redexim corporate strategy adopted throughout Europe and the rest of the world. While the re-brand has seen new livery’s and logo’s on branded products and literature, together with a new website, the portfolio, premises and personnel are unchanged – with a number of longstanding team members responsible for the sales and support of the latest generation of Redexim equipment.

The Verti-Drain® remains the flagship product, with the 2519 model incorporating the very best of Redexim precision design and engineering, proving its credentials as the ‘next generation’ of high-productivity aerator. Together with a new draw-rod system, it features an easy to adjust heave lever and slip clutch PTO drive – offering a PTO speed of up to 540rpm which allows it to cover up to 8739sq.m per hour when spaced at 165mm. As standard, the Verti-Drain® 2519 comes with 12mm solid tines but it can accept a range of solid tine options up to 19mm, and hollow tines for coring. This versatility, combined with a variable working depth of up to 250mm, makes it suitable for an array of end-users, across the full spectrum of the maintenance calendar.

Notable product has been another hallmark of Redexim UK over the four decades, with a willingness to trial new products in the UK market. While not all of the products have been suitable, others have gone on to become firm favourites in the Redexim offering – a prime example being the Rink range of disc and drop topdressers. For the golf market, the Rink DS800 is a popular choice, featuring a 0.8m3 hopper capacity, variable spreading widths of between 2m and 12m, and spreading thicknesses of 0.5 to 15mm. More recently, the 6m wide Top-Brush has made a huge impression – offering a quick and effective solution for dispersing worm casts, clearing surface moisture and removing organic matter.

The Redexim UK team are backed up by a comprehensive network of established dealers around the country – some of which have been on the journey with Redexim UK for a significant number of years. A specific mention goes to George Browns Ltd and F G Adamson & Son, who have both worked alongside Redexim for more than two decades.
With the Redexim philosophy of ‘constant development’ in mind, the team are entering their fifth decade with a streamlined portfolio, and new innovations in the pipeline, ensuring they continue to meet the demands of today’s turf professionals.
