Tractor Mounted Scarifier for Hills and Bends: The Verti-Cut Flex 2000

September 18, 2025
A tractor mounted scarifier removes thatch and unwanted growth below the surface for healthier, better-looking turf. But, they can struggle when not going in a straight, flat line. It’s easy for conventional machines to provide uneven results on hills and slopes. Fixed mounted systems will also scalp the turf as they drag around a bend. Enter the Verti-Cut Flex 2000. It creates perfect results on contoured and undulating turf.

It’s called ‘Flex’ because it’s a flexible tractor mounted scarifier; one that cuts up, down and around, so you can easily dethatch over slopes, around curves or between trees and obstacles. Many places we play on are not flat. For instance, golf courses often have small hills and bunkers with steep slopes. Unlike other sports, such as football/soccer, golf simply isn’t played on a perfectly flat square.

Parks, too, can lack predictable terrain, resembling something more natural. Trees and other features can be complicated to navigate. So, a flexible tractor mounted scarifier that can go around trees, up and down slopes, or across interesting features, getting every spot that conventional systems miss, for consistent and even results.

The Verti-Cut Flex 2000 adds to our comprehensive range of verticutting machines. Our standard-issue machines handle flat and even surfaces with precision and care.

Why We Use tractor mounted scarifiers

We use tractor mounted scarifiers to remove what’s under the surface that can damage what’s on top. Thatch and lateral growth like stolons and rhizomes can choke the rootzone, making it hard for water, air and nutrients to reach below. Moreover, dead organic material like grass clippings can create conditions ripe for disease.

Thus, we use tractor mounted scarifiers that verticut the ground. Verticut means vertical cutting and that’s exactly what these machines do, dethatching the soil, removing lateral growth and dead material, resulting in a healthier, fresher and more beautiful turf. Using a tractor mounted scarifier is a way to remove these malignant forces without using chemicals, though often in practice, multiple treatments can be used in combination to rejuvenate the turf below.

How it Works

The Verti-Cut Flex 2000 is a flexible tractor mounted scarifier that can dethatch on hills and slopes, around bends, or between trees and other obstacles. It has a verticutter in the middle and two floating wings with blades.

It can cut up, down and around, using its floating cutting wings, multiple points of flexibility, and Passive Pivoting Suspension™, to take slight turns. Together, they simulate a spherical range of motion.

Don’t Miss a Spot

You can cut up and over a hill with even and consistent results. All you have to do is set the cutting depth and go. One of the tractor mounted scarifier’s main points of flexibility is that it connects through a sliding hitch, rather than being fixed-mounted.

An independent wheelbase means it can practically make use of this sliding hitch. When it goes over an undulation, it slides up and down. Likewise, its floating cutting wings also glide up and down, dethatching as they go.

Passive Pivoting Suspension™ Explained

Passive Pivoting Suspension™ allows for effortless navigation around curves, bends and obstacles. The Verti-Cut Flex 2000’s central pivoting point is balanced, so when taking slight turns, it follows the tractor in a way that does not tend to scalp the turf.  Additionally, heavy-duty dual dampers stabilize the machine while in work.

Just Go Around

Many tractor mounted scarifiers are fixed to the tractor. Not only does this mean changing the working angle to go over a hill, it also makes it hard to work between trees, complex features, or around curves or bends. Passive Pivoting Suspension™ means that you can work along the curves of a golf green easily. It means you can cut between trees in a municipal park. Or, it allows you to work around a water fountain or a central feature.

One for the Pros

This tractor mounted scarifier machine’s floating wings fold up to make it more compact for transport and storage. It comes with blade guards that remove quickly for easy cleaning. A belt-driven system and single grease point make maintenance straightforward. Its large dampers lessen the amount it vibrates during transport. With a 2 m (2.2 yd) working width and a 40 mm (1.6”) cutting depth, it is compatible with compact, agile tractors that are ready to move up, down and around on the playing surface.

Machines for Level Turf

For flat surfaces, Redexim offers traditional verticutters built for efficiency. The Verti-Cut 1300 and 1600 are compact and lightweight, ideal for routine dethatching on level sports fields. Their manoeuvrability and simplicity make them easy to operate and transport.

For deeper cutting on flat ground, the Verti-Cut 2000 (non-flex option) provides robust performance in turf renovation. It offers a greater cutting depth than the Flex in the same working width. All three verticutters deliver excellent results across standard terrain.

Conclusion

The Verti-Cut Flex 2000 is more than a verticutter. It is a breakthrough for cutting on rolling hills, slopes and around curves and bends. With its multiple points of flexibility, floating wings, and Passive Pivoting Suspension™, it adapts to slopes, curves and contours without constant adjustment. This flexibility allows you to dethatch efficiently across challenging terrain, saving time while protecting the integrity of the surface.

Whether working around trees, navigating rolling fairways or maintaining greens with intricate features, the Verti-Cut Flex 2000 delivers consistent results where traditional verticutters fall short. For those who manage turf that moves with the land, this is the machine that moves with it.
